Plagiarism Policy
Unicorn Scientific Publishing LLC maintains strict standards against plagiarism and is committed to ensuring the originality and integrity of all published works. We define plagiarism as the use of another person’s words, data, images, or ideas without proper acknowledgment, whether intentional or unintentional.
1. Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:
- Copying text, figures, tables, or data without citation.
- Reproducing another author’s work verbatim without quotation marks or referencing.
- Paraphrasing substantial portions of another’s work without proper attribution.
- Submitting previously published work (self-plagiarism) without disclosure or permission.
- Using images, figures, or multimedia without obtaining the necessary rights or giving credit.
2. Plagiarism Screening
- All manuscripts submitted to Unicorn Scientific Publishing journals are subject to plagiarism detection software (e.g., Turnitin).
- The editorial office conducts a similarity check before peer review.
- A similarity index of more than 15–20% (excluding references, methods, and common phrases) may be considered problematic and subject to further investigation.
3. Handling of Plagiarism Cases
- Minor Overlap (below threshold): Authors will be asked to revise and properly cite the sources.
- Significant Overlap (above threshold): The manuscript may be rejected without peer review.
- Post-Publication Discovery: If plagiarism is identified after publication:
- A correction, expression of concern, or retraction will be issued depending on severity.
- The author’s institution and funding bodies may be notified.
- Repeat offenders may be barred from future submissions.
4. Self-Plagiarism
- Authors must not submit manuscripts that substantially overlap with their previously published work.
- Reuse of text from the author’s prior publications must be properly cited and limited to methodology or background.
- Duplicate submissions or “salami slicing” (publishing multiple small papers from the same dataset) is considered unethical.
5. Responsibilities of Authors
- Ensure proper citation and acknowledgment of all sources.
- Retain original data to demonstrate authenticity if required.
- Clearly identify material reused from previously published work (e.g., figures, tables) and obtain permission where necessary.
6. Responsibilities of Editors and Reviewers
- Editors are responsible for checking plagiarism reports before peer review.
- Reviewers are encouraged to report suspected plagiarism to the editorial office.
- Editors will handle cases in accordance with COPE guidelines.
7. Sanctions
- Manuscript rejection.
- Retraction of the published article.
- Temporary or permanent ban on future submissions.
- Notification to the author’s institution or funding agency.
8. Policy Updates
This plagiarism policy is reviewed periodically to remain consistent with international best practices in scholarly publishing.
